Paddi Murphy started in 2005 with the goal of producing soft, luxurious women’s sleepwear that highlighted femininity and function above all else. The key to our success has been in the details and design of our materials. We take pains to ensure a perfect fit and feel for every woman.
Customers love our Softies pajamas and have clamored for more, so in 2007 we launched the Spa Collection of robes and bed jackets.
Whether it’s the touch of the lightweight lettuce edge and soft lace on Softies pajamas that gently frames your face or the unexpected elegance of satin pockets as you snuggle into a cozy robe from the Spa Collection, Paddi Murphy puts comfort first.
Dennis Murphy, nicknamed Paddi as a newspaper delivery boy in South Dakota, has over 30 years in the lingerie and apparel business. After graduating from college, Dennis went to work as a salesman for Vassarette, a division of Munsingwear, Inc. out of Minneapolis, specializing in women’s lingerie and foundations. Promoted to regional vice president of sales, Dennis was introduced to the “back office” of fabrics, design and manufacturing. From there, he formed his own sales organization specializing in all areas of lingerie, sales, design and new ideas for his customers.
In 2005, when Dennis started Softies, he distributed his first run of test products to mothers of all the boys he’d coached through the years. “I chased their kids around ball fields for years, so I asked for a favor in return,” he says. As it turned out, Dennis was doing them the favor.
“Be brutally honest”, he told the moms. “Are the pajamas comfortable? Do they work?”
The soccer-mom testers answered unanimously, resoundingly: “Yes!” Some of the testers were menopausal or pre-menopausal. Some suffered from diabetes or other disease. All of them loved the pajamas, loved sleeping cool, dry and fresh. A chemotherapy patient told him it was the first time she didn’t have to change pajamas in the middle of the night.
Today, Dennis has found that it takes just one buyer. “Sell one pair,” he says. “Within a few days, she’ll tell her family and friends, and they’ll all want a pair for themselves.”
